Vital advice on how Midlands companies can make their businesses Brexitproof is to be offered at two workshops by one of the country’s leading European experts.

Peter Wilding, Brexit Director at FBC Manby Bowdler, is staging the two events in Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton to help guide firms through the Brexit maze and ensure they are doing everything possible to be able to thrive after the UK’s EU withdrawal.

Mr Wilding – the man who first coined the term Brexit and who has spent more than 25 years at the heart of Europe – said the events would be essential for any business importing from or exporting to Europe or which employed EU staff.

He will lead the workshops – Brexitproof your Business – at the Mytton and Mermaid hotel at Atcham, near Shrewsbury, from 9am on March 6 and at the Mount Hotel in Wolverhampton on March 20, also at 9am.

Mr Wilding said: “Although Brexit is still clouded in uncertainty, there is an awful lot that businesses can do now to make sure they are in a position to thrive when it does finally happen.

“I will take them through the steps they should be taking now and over the next few months in a number of key areas. We will look at topics such as employment law and what you will need to do in order to retain your EU staff and continue to employ them after Brexit.

“I’ll discuss issues around exporting goods, services and agricultural produce and what changes to the compliance and certification regime will mean for exporters in the region.

“For farmers, we’ll take a detailed look at what will replace the Common Agricultural Policy and whether they stand to gain or lose as a result of any new subsidies.

“And we’ll have an in-depth look at what Brexit will mean for importers, for those in a supply chain which spreads across the continent and who need to get plans in place to continue their work after March 29.”

Mr Wilding, who heads up FBC Manby Bowdler’s comprehensive Brexit Advisory Team, said the aim of the four-hour workshops would be to give businesses a firm foundation from which to draw up contingency plans and prepare for both the challenges and opportunities which Brexit would bring.
