A Midlands law firm has extended its support to a unique engineering project as it prepares to make its UK debut.

Wolverhampton has a proud heritage associated with the world land speed record that currently stands at a supersonic 763mph. FBC Manby Bowdler, which is based in Wolverhampton, has renewed its sponsorship as a composite sponsor of the BLOODHOUND Supersonic car that is aiming to eventually reach more than 1,000mph in a record-breaking attempt.

The firm’s logo features on the iconic vehicle alongside other Midlands-based manufacturing specialists such as Jaguar and Rolls-Royce.

The vehicle will get its first UK outing as it blasts down a 1.7mile long runway at Cornwall Airport in Newquay in a series of public runs from October 26 to 30.

The ultimate aim is to cover a mile in 3.6 seconds in South Africa in 2018, thanks to the power of its jet engine and cluster of hybrid rockets, which combined produce 135,000bhp.

Manufacturing specialist Neil Lloyd, Sales Director at FBC Manby Bowdler, said: “We’re delighted to be able to continue Wolverhampton’s proud history of being associated with land speed records. The Sunbeam ‘Slug’, which was manufactured in the city, was the first car to break the 200mph barrier on March 29 1927.

“With our roots firmly in Wolverhampton and our strong tradition providing legal advice to manufacturers of the city and surrounding area, we have a natural link to the BLOODHOUND project and can’t wait to see the car in action for the first time.”

The event in October will include team interviews, vehicle demonstrations, family friendly education activities and driving simulators with funds going towards the record-breaking attempt. For more information go to: www.bloodhoundssc.com
